More questions about Murder we wrote!

Here are the last four questions about Murder we wrote:

4. What methods are commonly used to find the time of death?

-The rate method:
As I understood, this method is applyed by analyzing or making comparisons between a proces (of a person behavior, for example) that we know as common, and the change that it presents since the moment of death. For example, the rigor moris (which is a change of body cells becoming rigid), the change of body temperature, or the putrefaction time.

-The concurrence method:
This method is really logical and exciting at the same time, because with it, forensics are able to prove that their hypothesis are true or not. This method is based on cheking elements of the person or environment that could tell us some specific details of the death hour, that could agree with the theories we might have thought before. For example, as the lecture says, a wrist watch stopped by a blow during an assault, the extent of digestion of the last meal (of the dead person) that was known.

5. What factors are considered in Algor Mortis?

-The size of the body.
-Clothing and coverings.
-Movement and humidity of the air.
-Immersion in water.
-Etc.

6. How does the environment affect the time of death?

It does affect it higly because the conditions of the enviroment are crucial in order to determine the precise time in which a body just passed away. The heat, the cold and the climatic situations are huge factors that lead into conclusions, with them, forensic scients can make an hypothesis about when does the body stopped working.

7. What can you tell about the different methods of temperature reading of the body? Do they make a difference in the results?

Well, those methods are really helpful to scientist in order to find the time of death of the body, they are very precise in the aproximations and truyle a really useful tool to find out the answers to their questions. Each method as I said is really precise and good, the results, whatever method you're using will be really similar.

Roles of the team and more...

Well, about our project, we have decided the roles that everyone is going to play:

Elisa: The Math expert.
Ubaldo: The Journalist
Victoria: The Media expert
Fernanda: The Forensic Scientist
Ana Leonor: character of the movie.

*Some questions:

1. What is forensic science?

Forensic science can be defined as “…any aspect of science as it relates to law”, or sections of science that can be used or “called into question in a court of law” (Murray “Forensic”).

2. What kind of evidence can be collected in a murder case?

-The murderer's DNA.
-Murdere's fingerprints on a corpse
-Some hair, or belongings of the murderer, etc.
-Also there are other intangible evidence or factors like (temperaure of the corpse, the environment, etc.)

3. Why is important to determine the time of death?

The timing is a really important factor to determine the guilt or innocence of somebody in a murder case. Since a body changes really fast as time is passing after death, is a huge clue that forensics get when they determine the time that the body has been no longer alive.

I think the main objective of this project is to introduce us into the forensics by solving criminal cases with math tools. To make us understand that the application of Mathematics is in everywhere and is really useful specially in law and investigations cases. I think this project will teach us a lot and will be really interesting to do it, hopefully with a great teamwork we will take some lessons for life and learn a lot of this branch of science.

Today's marathon

Today's class was really funny because we all played the math marathon for a quiz with a high grade. At the beginning, we all had at least 70 in today's quiz (which made me so happy because is the higher note on a quiz I have reached so far=)=)), then the game started and my team was composed by me and two good friends of mine, Elisa and Vicky.
When we started the game, I was pretty sure I was going to win, because I was answering all my questions correctly and I stole one answer, and I really wanted to win because my team and I just need those points so bad. Rounds passed and then we all started getting excited and the competition was hard because we all wanted to get those extra points. At one moment, I got really mad because one card I took was totally about a topic I don't understand at all (and I knew from then, that I was going to loose advantage), and I got it incorrect.
I started to bother my two friends and cry and beg for another chance, Vicky got mad at me, and Elisa just laughed. Sorry, I acted like that=/ I lost my mind all because some extra points=/=/, just forgive me!!
At the end I won the third place=/, but I learned a lot =O
That's everything so far...

About my notes in calculus=/

This last week has been interesting, I have understood pretty much to everything in math class and all the topic about integrals etc., I have done homeworks by myself and I really thought I was well prepared for the quiz.
Once I did it, I realize that I got a really stupid mistake about something that actually I know how to solve, that was polinomial division=/.
So I did too bad in my quiz, I got 50 =/=/=/, and if you add to that my other quizzes' grades (35,50) I need better numbers so far.
So next quiz I will try to be very concentrated, because I really want to get a 100!!=O

Luther King's Quotation

I am reposting my first week entry in this new blog, since the old one was removed from my account. =/

Luther King Jr.'s quotation
I think that the quote of Martin Luther King Junior is very certain, and I agree with that, because when we become silent about the things really matter and we want to express, our life is not the same. We need to communicate with others everything we want to, what we need or feel, and if we don't, relationships and things we do in life will start to be unsuccesful. Communication is one of the main virtues that we, as humans have, and we must use it in order to make our life easier and happier.
I think this blog is a very insteresting activity because we'll be able to know what our classmates ad friends think about different topics, it is a funny way to know more with others, and increase our knowledge in math or many different subjects. I think we can use this blog anytime of the course and we will learn too much from here.
